CPN-UML has decided to postpone the ongoing Mechi-Mahakali campaign for three days following the death of protestors of Madhesi Morcha during a clash with security forces near Industrial Area of Rajbiraj in the district on Monday.
According to Surya Thapa, secretary of the publicity department of the party, the standing committee meeting held at Rupani-based residence of party leader Suman Pyakurel decided to postpone the campaign for three days considering the request from the government and assessing the situation.
The Morcha supporters picketed the UML’s campaign venue in Gajendra Narayan Industrial Area today and were making attempts to foil the programme. Police had to resort to tear gas and gun firing to contain the escalating tension.
